SimLight Golf runs on your own computer, and it's built to keep it that way. Most of what the app touches never leaves your device. The little that does is either the limited crash report described below, or something you actively choose to send us. This page explains all of it in plain language.
The short version
- Your settings, player names, lighting, and shot data stay on your PC. There is no account and no cloud sync.
- Packaged builds send anonymous crash reports (technical error info only) so we can fix bugs.
- Bug reports, feature requests, and launch-monitor captures are sent only when you choose to.
- We don't sell your data, and we don't run ads inside the app.
- Questions or requests: support@simlightgolf.com.
SimLight Golf ("SimLight", "we", "us") is operated by Norwell Labs LLC. This policy covers the SimLight desktop application and this website (simlightgolf.com). It supplements, and is referenced by, our End User License Agreement.
1. What stays on your device
The app has no user account and does not sync or continuously upload your setup to any cloud. The following live only on your computer, in your Windows application-data folder:
- Your settings, lighting preferences, and calibration.
- Player names and colors you enter.
- Your lighting controller's local network (IP) address.
- The game and launch-monitor data SimLight reads while you play.
This information leaves your device only through the limited crash telemetry in section 2, or when you actively choose to send it to us (sections 4 and 5).
2. What the app sends automatically
Crash reports
Packaged builds automatically send crash reports to our error-reporting provider, Sentry, so we can find and fix problems. These are limited to technical information: your operating system, the app version, and the error and where it occurred in the code. We configure them to exclude in-memory variable values, and we remove your Windows user name from any file paths before a report is sent. They do not include your lighting data, player names, or network addresses.
Update checks
On startup the app may check for a newer version by requesting a small file from simlightgolf.com. This request is anonymous and sends no information about you.
3. Licensing
When you activate a license, the app sends your license key and your computer's name to our licensing provider, Lemon Squeezy, to validate the key and count activations. This is used only to manage your license. Your purchase itself (name, email, payment) is handled by Lemon Squeezy as the seller of record under their own privacy policy.
4. What you can choose to send us
Bug reports
If you use the in-app "Report a Bug" tool, SimLight assembles a diagnostic package: your name, email, and description; the last few hundred lines of the application log; a snapshot of your settings file (which can include your player names, your controller's local IP address, your launch-monitor make/model and device id, and Windows file paths); and, if you ran the launch-monitor detector during that session, its capture. A copy is saved to your Desktop, and when you press Send, it is uploaded to us so we can diagnose the problem. If the upload can't complete, SimLight instead opens your email program with the Desktop copy attached, and nothing is sent unless you send that email yourself.
Feature requests
The "Request a Feature" tool sends only your name, email, and the text of your request: no logs, settings, or diagnostics.
Launch-monitor captures (optional)
To help us support more launch monitors, SimLight, and our separate "LM Capture" helper, can record how your launch monitor reports one shot and one putt (the connector window's on-screen data and control layout, plus a short sample of shot and putt data), together with any name and email you choose to provide. This is entirely optional, you start it yourself, and you can skip it. It is never triggered automatically.
5. Where reports and captures are stored
Anything you send us under section 4 is transmitted over HTTPS and stored in our cloud storage, hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS), currently in the United States. We use it only to reproduce and fix problems and to improve hardware compatibility, and we delete it once it is no longer needed for that purpose.
6. Your local network
To find and control your lighting controller, SimLight communicates with it directly over your local network. This activity stays on your network and is not sent to us.
7. This website
The website (simlightgolf.com) is a static site hosted on Netlify. A few things are worth calling out:
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic (pages visited, rough location, device type). We don't use it to identify you personally.
- Waitlist / email. If you give us your email (for example to join the waitlist), we store it, through our forms provider on Netlify, only to email you about SimLight Golf. You can ask us to remove it at any time.
- Affiliate links. Some hardware links on this site are affiliate or referral links: we may earn a commission on a purchase at no extra cost to you. Those links take you to third-party retailers who handle your data under their own policies. This never influences our technical recommendations.
8. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share the limited data above only with the service providers that make SimLight work:
- Sentry:crash reporting (section 2).
- Lemon Squeezy:license validation and checkout (section 3).
- Amazon Web Services:storage for the reports and captures you send (section 5).
- Netlify:website hosting and waitlist form handling (section 7).
- Google Analytics:website traffic analytics (section 7).
9. Children
SimLight is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll delete it.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including the EU/UK and California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, or to object to its processing. Because most of what SimLight handles never leaves your device, often the fastest way to remove data is to delete it locally or uninstall the app. For anything you've sent us, or for your waitlist email, just contact support@simlightgolf.com and we'll take care of it. We won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as SimLight evolves. When we make a material change, we'll update the date at the top of this page, and, where it affects the app, the app's license agreement is versioned so you're asked to review it again.
